  Nicole Richie Brief History

Nicole Richie (born Nicole Camilla Escovedo on September 21, 1981 in Berkeley, California, USA) is a socialite best known for her sometimes troubled friendship with heiress Paris Hilton.

It has been said that Peter Michael Escovedo III (brother of singer Sheila E), a Latin percussionist of Mexican and African descent is her biological father, but Richie has said otherwise. Escovedo was a member of Richie's band. Apparently, Nicole's mother was never a factor in her life, and Escovedo raised her alone.

Escovedo took Nicole to Richie's gigs and recording sessions, and she became something of a mascot for the band. Richie was so taken with then 3-year-old Nicole that Escovedo allowed her to live with the singer and his first wife. When Nicole was 9, Escovedo surrendered his paternal rights, and the Richies formally adopted her.

Nicole is trained in cello, violin, piano, and figure skating, and has plans to pursue a music career. She also attended the University of Arizona for two years after graduating from high school. She made her musical debut in February 2005 with a live appearance on ABC's The View playing the piano. Her godfather is Michael Jackson.

Nicole Talks Paris

Mon Oct 24, 2005

paris hilton the simple lifeNicole Richie has broken her silence.

In a new interview with Jane magazine, the Simple Life star spoke up about her rift with former BFF Paris Hilton, saying that no reconciliation is in sight.

Richie said she and Hilton "really haven't been friends in probably about two years," but declined to say what caused the falling out between the ex-confidantes.

"I know that Paris loves to talk about it and that stuff, but that's just not my style," Richie told Jane. As for whether she thought she and Hilton would ever make up, she replied, "No, not at this point."

Last April, Hilton released a statement attributing the split to Richie, but failing to provide specifics.

"I will not go into the details of what happened," Hilton said. "All I will say is that Nicole knows what she did, and that's all I am ever going to say about it."

Despite the bad blood between the two socialites, both remain under contract for the fourth season of their reality series, The Simple Life.

Though Fox decided earlier this month to drop the series from its schedule, Hilton said last week that production plans remained in place.

"We're shooting Nov. 1," the heiress told the Associated Press. "All the networks are fighting over it."

While Hilton remained unshakably optimistic about the future of the series, Richie seemed less certain of what her Simple Life role would consist of this time around.

"Nobody knows what the concept is right now--we're just signed on to do it," she said.

In addition to finally opening up about the demise of her friendship, Richie addressed another much talked-about topic--her weight.

The formerly curvy celebutante denied rumors that her dramatic weight loss is due to an eating disorder.

"Nothing people say really bothers me, but that bothers me because I wouldn't want somebody younger than me, someone who looks up to me, to believe it," Richie said.

She also denied father Lionel Richie's public suggestion that stress over her upcoming nuptials to fiance DJ AM (aka Adam Goldstein) caused the pounds to melt away.

"I don't know why [my dad] said that...I think what he meant to say is, like, if you're doing a million things, obviously you eat less," she said.

Meanwhile, Richie was enthusiastic on the subject of her wedding day.

"I want our wedding to be huge. And I want everyone to come, and I want it to be the happiest day of my life," she said.

No word on whether "everyone" included Hilton, but we're guessing not.

Apart from preparing to walk down the aisle, Richie makes her big-screen debut Friday in the comedy Kids in America.

RICHIE SLAMS HILTON IN NOVEL

paris hilton nicoleNICOLE RICHIE appears to take an unsubtle swipe at former friend PARIS HILTON in her semi-autobiographical novel THE TRUTH ABOUT DIAMONDS, basing a character on the hotel heiress.

The pair, co-stars in reality TV show THE SIMPLE LIFE, are no longer friends, and are currently embroiled in a mystery feud.

Richie seems determined to have the last word - making the book's villain SIMONE WESTLAKE the spitting image of Hilton.

Richie, who calls Simone "an all-around professional fake-rich girl" admits, "Simone and Paris have similarities" - but the likenesses are uncanny.

In one excerpt Richie describes how Simone used the word n**ger after a row with a black man - a reference to a similar incident last August (04) when Hilton was accused of using the word.

Another section of the text describes Simone boasting about having a strain of marijuana named after her. A friend tells Inside TV magazine, "Paris always bragged about how she had a type of weed named after her back in high school."

Other similarities include a mockery of Hilton's habit of stealing catchphrases from other people and the way she allegedly tried to hog the camera on the set of The Simple Life.

In the book, Richie appears to base the heroine CHLOE PARKER on herself. Chloe is a beautiful Los Angeles socialite with a rock star father - Richie's father is singer LIONEL RICHIE.

Cindy Guagenti, Richie's publicist, announced Tuesday that Richie and Goldstein had become engaged, but no date has been set for the wedding. Richie and Goldstein, a disk jockey who goes by the moniker DJ AM, have been an item for one year and the two recently bought a Hollywood Hills home together.
